Orono Action
What is Orono Action?
Orono Action is a nonpartisan committee of the Orono School Board with parent and community leadership that advocates for public education, specifically for the policies and funding that further the best educational outcomes for the students of our communities.
Committee leaders come from a variety of backgrounds, including medicine, education, law, small business owners, the social sciences, alumni, and long-standing community members.
How Can I Participate?

What Does Orono Action Do?
Develops a legislative platform endorsed by the School Board that articulates our legislative priorities.
The current platform was endorsed by the Orono School Board on February 10, 2025:
1. Allow for flexibility with funding
- Do not eliminate Q-comp, or at a minimum allow districts to levy for the funding.
- Remove the per-pupil limit on Long Term Facilities Maintenance (LTFM).
- Increase Local Optional Revenue from $724 to $974 per pupil to keep pace with inflation.
2. Allow for flexibility with accountability.
- Accept the ACT, or another equivalent exam, to be used in additional to MCA testing to determine proficiency.
- Allow for local control over utilization of READ Act dollars.
- Continue current standards for Literacy Incentive Aid.
Additional Provision: The Orono Action chairs, in consultation with the Orono School Board and Superintendent, may advocate for additional positions supported by the Association of Metropolitan School Districts.
