Middle School Academics
At OMS, we recognize the importance of instructional match and provide the appropriate rigor and academic support for students. For more information, please visit the OMS Curriculum webpage. Ms. Randall, the Gifted & Talented Specialist for grades 6-12 and Ms. Lubke, the school counselor, also work to support the academic needs of OMS students.
6th Grade Curriculum
Students in grade 6 have four core classes, each 45 minutes in length:
- English/Enriched English (see below)
- Science (Earth and space)
- Social Studies (Minnesota history)
- Mathematics (see below for sequences)
- Exploratory courses (1 quarter, unless noted)
- Health
- Physical Education (2 quarters)
- Art
- Performing Arts
- Computer Applications
- Technology (STEM)
- Spanish
- Band, Choir or Study Hall
7th Grade Curriculum

- Social Studies (world history and geography)

- World Language (Chinese, German or Spanish
- Exploratory courses
- Health (1 quarter)
- Physical Education (2 quarters)
- Art (4.5 weeks)
- Computer Applications (4.5 weeks)
- Technology (STEM) (4.5 weeks)
- Academic Planning (4.5 weeks)
