Schoology Platform
Schoology is a learning management system that functions like a teacher's website with communication, assignments, events, photos, newsletters, discussions, videos, and more! Students and families have access to Schoology at any time and can see when assignments are due and completed. Learn more about Schoology access on the Communications website.
Organizational Skills
"Getting organized” may be a new concept or need for your middle school child. We have some ideas that can help!
Planners: Many students find that a digital or paper-based planner is helpful. We recommend XXX
Routines and habits: Students at the middle level often benefit from routines and habits for completing work at home. Try a homework schedule that's consistent from day to day. Consider asking your teacher how long they expect a specific assignment to take.
Workspace: Getting organized can also mean setting up a workspace at home that’s quiet, big enough to spread out, with minimal distractions. OMS has a cell phone policy, “Away for the Day,” that has made a big difference with our students’ ability to engage with their work and each other. Consider implementing this same strategy during homework time at home.
Extended Learning
Attendance
Attendance is an important component of academic success!
Students should arrive at school and each class on time each day. The school day starts at 8:00 a.m. Attendance is taken each class period. Please remember to prearrange your child's absence due to vacation, funeral, etc.
- Please report absences through ParentVUE. If you do not have a ParentVUE account, please contact lydia.leck@orono.k12.mn.us
- email questions to MSattendance@orono.k12.mn.us or telephone 952-449-8451
Assignments during absence
Teachers will provide students with as many assignments as possible prior to a pre-arranged absence. However, all student assignments are available through the Schoology platform. Students must make arrangements with each teacher to complete missing assignments within a period deemed appropriate by the classroom teacher.

WEB Leaders
WEB = WHERE EVERYBODY BELONGS
What is a WEB Leader?
WEB Leaders exhibit the Six Pillars of Character - TRUSTWORTHINESS, RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY, FAIRNESS, CARING, & CITIZENSHIP. A WEB Leader is an eighth grader who is:
- sincere
- courteous and polite
- accountable for what they do and don’t do
- fair, kind and considerate
- respectful of rules (does not cheat)
How to become a WEB Leader?
The opportunity to become a WEB Leader is available to all eighth grade student who complete the application process. Students interested in pursing additional leadership opportunities at OMS should consider applying. Students are chosen based on the following criteria: attendance, academic standing, and teacher recommendation.
What does a WEB Leader do?
WEB Leaders are trained to work with the incoming sixth-graders and other students new to Orono Middle School. After receiving training, WEB Leaders will run sixth-grade orientation in August before school starts. At the orientation, each WEB Leader will be given a small group of students to work with that day and will be asked to befriend and to help that group during the first week of school with any challenges they may face. They will help other students; plus, have fun!
WEB Leaders also help with mentoring, building tours, promoting Character Counts and other activities that come up during the school year.
If you have further questions about the Orono Middle School WEB Leader program, please contact Jennifer Lubke at
