Class Assignments & Lunch PIN

You can log in to ParentVUE on August 19 at 4 p.m. to view classroom teacher assignments, lunch/media center PIN, and to update parent/guardian contact information and emergency contacts. We anticipate bus stop information to be available in ParentVUE mid- to late-August. 

K-5 Back-to-School Open House | Thursday, August 27, drop in from 4-6p.m.

We invite you to save the date and choose a convenient time to visit during the Orono Intermediate School K-5 Back-to-School Open House on Thursday, August 27 from 4-6 p.m. At the event, you will meet teachers, explore classrooms and learning spaces, and start forming new relationships! In the cafeteria, students can practice entering their lunch pin and receive a snack in return. On the school bus, new-to-district students can take a practice ride and learn a bit about bus safety. Students will bring their school supplies, find their locker, and have fun on the playground. 

Note to all families: Grade-level curriculum presentations will be shared via email from your child’s classroom teacher in advance of the event. You’ll have a chance to review and then bring any questions about curriculum, classroom routines/daily schedule, recess, lunch, staff-to-home communication, and more. We look forward to welcoming your child(ren) and family for the 2026-27 school year! See you then!

MEDICATION: Please bring your child's medications and paperwork to the IS Health Office between 4-6 p.m on August 27. Thank you!

School Pictures on Open House Day | Thursday, August 27 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

LifeTouch Picture Day at the Intermediate School will take place on Thursday, August 27 from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. Families can sign up for an IS time block that works best for their schedule.

NOTES: Students need to take their picture at the school building they attend. Retakes are scheduled for Tuesday, October 6, from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.

MEDICATION DROP-OFF: Please bring your child's medication(s) and paperwork to your child's school Health Office during the Open House on August 27 between 4-6 p.m.

If you wish to keep rescue medications at school in the health office, we will need the following items before school starts in the fall:

• Updated medical documentation of the student's diagnosis (signed by a doctor and a parent) every new school year. A school anaphylaxis/asthma/seizure action plan from the doctor is the best documentation to give us prior to school starting in the fall. 
• Medication(s) matching the anaphylaxis plan need to be in their original container(s) with pharmacy labels intact
• Double check that the medication you are providing to the school matches (drug and dose) the medical orders from the physician.

NOTE: Plan ahead when requesting asthma, seizure, anaphylaxis, or diabetes action plans from your medical provider. Clinics become extremely busy in late August and early September, so it's best to request this documentation as soon as possible.

Child Nutrition, Menus & Educational Benefits

School breakfast and lunch meals are fully funded for all students by the state of Minnesota. Please visit the Orono Child Nutrition website for more information on meals and the online application for Educational Benefits. Menus will be available through Nutrislice. Any questions related to school meals can be directed to jacklyn.deroma@orono.k12.mn.us.

End-of-Day Dismissal

Families have two options for end-of-day dismissal:

BUS: Remember, bus passes are not issued the first two weeks of school. This practice allows for drivers to get routes/timing down. To request a one-day bus pass, please contact your child's school main office: Schumann Elementary or Orono Intermediate School. For other bus routing requests, please visit the Transportation webpage.

Drive up, Pick up - CarRiderPro:

• If your student(s) are enrolled at Orono Schumann Elementary only, you will pick them up in the Orono Schumann Elementary CarRiderPro line pick up location behind Schumann Elementary entering from Old Crystal Bay Rd. N.
• If you have students enrolled at both Orono Schumann Elementary and Orono Intermediate School, you will pick up in the  Orono Intermediate School back loop, using the County Road 112/Wayzata Blvd. entrance that leads to the cul-de-sac behind Orono Intermediate School (see map below.)
• If your student(s) are enrolled at Orono Intermediate School only,  you will pick them up in the Orono Intermediate School front loop, entering off of Old Crystal Bay Road.

If your family has not been issued a CarRider Pro Tag and you will be picking up your student, please email SEInfo@orono.k12.mn.us (Schumann Elementary) or melissa.thompson@orono.k12.mn.us (Intermediate School) so a tag can be issued to your family. The district provides one tag for free. Additional tags are $5.00.  If you have lost your tag or need to order additional tags, you may do so through My Payments Plus.

"Away for the Day" - Limiting Electronic Distractions

There is mounting research that highlights the detrimental impact that cell phones have on learning, overall academic performance and social connections for intermediate level learners. We ask for your continued support and partnership as we work this year to limit electronic distractions.

To help our students learn at the highest possible levels and make connections with their peers around them, we are implementing an “Away for the Day” building goal. This means that cell phones are turned off and kept in the student's locker during instructional times, lunch and recess. We also request that smart watches do not receive cellular signals while students are in school. We encourage you to please have a conversation at home with your child prior to the beginning of the school year to help support academic excellence and relationship-building.

Reaching your child during the school day.  It is important to us to ensure that you continue to have access to your child when needed during the school day. There are many options to help facilitate this:
